Overview

Dr. Weinstein is Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Psychiatry at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Dr. Weinstein attended the University of California at Los Angeles for her B.A. in Psychology, and M.A. and Ph.D. in Education/ Counseling Psychology. Her post doctoral training was completed at St. John’s Health Center at the Richeimer Pain Institute, Cedars Sinai Medical Center/ Department of Psychiatry, and at the USC Pain Center/Keck School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Psychiatry. She is now faculty at the Keck School of Medicine.

She is currently a co-investigator in research on the effects of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth on chronic pain. Research areas of interest include chronic pain, patient-provider communication, psychological trauma, attachment style and health seeking behaviors, integrative medicine and new technology, including virtual reality.

Dr. Weinstein’s clinical areas of interest include pain management psychology, stress management, post traumatic stress, and anxiety disorders. Dr. Weinstein’s contribution to resident education has focused on reinforcing the importance of interpersonal and communication skills, creating a therapeutic alliance with patients, and mechanisms for stress reduction in self-care.
