Overview

Dr. Jeffrey Forris Beecham Chick is a Professor of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. He serves as Division Chief of Interventional Radiology within the Department of Radiology at Keck Medicine of USC and as Program Director of the Independent Interventional Radiology Residency Program, where he oversees clinical operations, physician education, and the continued growth of a prominent academic Interventional Radiology practice.

Dr. Chick completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School and his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board-certified in both Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology and is a Fellow of multiple distinguished professional societies, including the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society for Vascular Medicine, and the American Heart Association.

Prior to his current appointments, Dr. Chick served as Vice Quality Assurance and Safety Officer at the University of Michigan. At the University of Washington, he held several senior leadership positions, including Associate Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Program Director of the Interventional Radiology Residency, Director of Research, and Director of Venous Interventions. He is the founder of the Deep Vein Institute and IRADLab (Interventional Radiology Advanced Development Laboratory) and serves as a strategic advisor to multiple biomedical and device innovation organizations focused on advancing next-generation venous and endovascular therapies.

Internationally recognized for his clinical innovation, scholarly productivity, and academic leadership, Dr. Chick is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts in the endovascular management of venous disease. His work has helped shape contemporary treatment paradigms for deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, superior vena cava syndrome, iliocaval obstruction, post-thrombotic syndrome, and advanced inferior vena cava filter retrieval. He has been at the forefront of developing and refining large-bore mechanical thrombectomy, complex venous recanalization, venous stent reconstruction, and advanced caval interventions, and through both procedural innovation and an extensive body of scientific scholarship, has played a major role in defining modern standards for advanced venous intervention.

In addition to venous disease, Dr. Chick has expertise in portal hypertension interventions, interventional oncology, embolization therapies, lymphatic interventions, Interventional Radiology-operated endoscopy, and other complex minimally invasive procedures. He is also recognized for his leadership in operational excellence within Interventional Radiology, including quality improvement, workflow redesign, resource optimization, and patient safety initiatives across high-volume academic medical centers. His scholarly interests further extend to physician wellness, moral injury, professional fulfillment, social media in medicine, and medicolegal issues in Interventional Radiology.

Dr. Chick has delivered more than 220 invited national and international lectures and has authored over 275 peer-reviewed scientific publications, establishing him as an academic voice in contemporary Interventional Radiology and venous disease intervention. His work continues to influence both clinical practice and the evolving technological landscape of advanced venous and endovascular therapy worldwide.
