Laura Mosqueda, MD was appointed Dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC on\nMay 1, 2018. Prior to her appointment as Dean, Dr. Mosqueda, a Professor of Family\nMedicine and Geriatrics and a Professor at the USC Leonard Davis School of\nGerontology, served as Associate Dean of Primary Care and the Chair of Family\nMedicine.\n\nLaura Mosqueda, MD was appointed Interim Dean of the Keck School of Medicine of\nUSC on October 6, 2017. Prior to her appointment as Interim Dean, Dr. Mosqueda, a\nProfessor of Family Medicine and Geriatrics and a Professor at the USC Leonard Davis\nSchool of Gerontology, served as Chair of Family Medicine and Associate Dean of\nPrimary Care. Before coming to the Keck School of Medicine of USC, Dr. Mosqueda\nworked at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine for fourteen years.\nStarting as the director of the Program in Geriatrics, she occupied the Ronald W Reagan\nEndowed Chair in Geriatrics and later served as the Chair of Family Medicine and\nAssociate Dean of Primary Care.\n\nAn accomplished physician and researcher, Dr. Mosqueda is a national and\ninternational expert on elder abuse and neglect. She has testified in front of Congress\nand has been invited to the White House several times to discuss elder justice\ninitiatives. She has taken the lead on landmark studies to identify forensic markers of\nabuse and neglect. Mosqueda created the nation’s first Elder Abuse Forensic Center in\n2006, a model that has been replicated across the United States. She works with\ncommunity partners to implement changes that cross medical, social, mental health\nand criminal justice systems. She is the director of the National Center on Elder Abuse,\na $2.95 million federally-funded initiative which focuses on information regarding\npolicy, research, training, and resources related to the neglect and exploitation of\nolder adults for policymakers, professionals, and the public.\n\nShe served as the president of the Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic\nPrograms from 2010-2013 and completed a two-year Healthcare Leadership Program\nfellowship through the California HealthCare Foundation in 2013. She served as a\nmember of the Institute of Medicine Forum on Global Violence Prevention from 2013-\n2017.\n\nShe has served as the principal investigator on multiple studies and projects funded by\ndiverse groups including the National Institute of Health, National Institute of Justice,\nAdministration for Community Living, and the John A. Hartford Foundation. She has\ncontributed numerous publications to peer-reviewed journals and served as co-editor\non four books about geriatric medicine.\n\nIn addition to Dr. Mosqueda’s leadership in clinical care and research, she has been\nactively involved in medical education. She has mentored medical students, graduate\nstudents, residents and clinical fellows. Graduating students awarded her the Gold\nHumanism in Medicine Award in 2009. At UC Irvine she was the principal investigator\nof a $2 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation which led to innovative\nand sustained curricular changes in geriatric education. At the Keck School of\nMedicine, she was the principal investigator of a $2.5 million federally funded grant on\ngeriatric workforce enhancement across multiple disciplines. She has particular\ninterest in care of vulnerable and underserved populations and precepts\ninterprofessional health care students at a homeless shelter on Skid Row.
