Research

The faculty members in the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery are actively involved in clinical research in the area of pelvic floor disorders. Recent studies have looked at the use of lavender aromatherapy for anxiety during urodynamics, the use of lidocaine gel versus water based lubricant for pain during urodynamics, the prevalence of hydronephrosis with advanced pelvic organ prolapse, the effect of pessary use on hydronephrosis with advanced pelvic organ prolapse, risk factors for pessary discontinuation, risk factors for failure of abdominal sacral colpopexy, comparison of two simulation models for teaching obstetric anal sphincter repair, pelvic floor symptoms after surgery for leiomyomata, and knowledge regarding urogynecologic conditions in an underserved patient population. There are always several ongoing projects in the division.
