KSOM Research Internship Program

Purpose

The purpose of the Keck School’s Research Internship Program is to provide relevant research experience to individuals interested in postgraduate training in a biomedical field.

Eligibility

Undergraduate and recent postgraduate students from accredited U.S. colleges or universities are eligible to apply. Additional requirements are as follows:

  • Non-USC students and all recent graduates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Currently enrolled USC students do not need to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Recent graduates include those who are less than two years out from graduation. Individuals who are more than two years from graduation may be considered on a case-by-case basis and must have a compelling reason, e.g. making the transition to a biomedical field.

Internship Experience

The goal of the internship is for the student to gain objective-driven laboratory or clinical research experience directed by a KSOM faculty member and focused on advancing the research intern’s knowledge and skills.

  • Typical research tasks will be part of the experience but should not displace compensated research team members
  • Duration: up to one year
  • Participation: up to 20 hours per week
  • Trainees must meet all applicable requirements/certifications for working in KSOM lab or clinical research environments
  • Summary of experience written by the faculty sponsor and the research intern is required at completion
  • Students do not pay for, and are not paid for, their participation in the Keck Research Internship

Application Process

Prospective interns should already be matched with faculty supervisors at the time of application. The application should be completed by the individual who is applying for the internship in collaboration with the faculty supervisor.

  • Current USC students and recent graduate application will be reviewed by KSOM Medical Education.
  • Student and recent graduate applications from other accredited U.S colleges or universities will be reviewed by the KSOM Office of Research.
