Research and Specialization

  • Collaborative research with County and State health administrations aims to increase vaccination rates to improve cancer prevention (e.g. HPV), and identifies and targets at-risk communities through outreach and engagement activities.
  • Research into prevention and control of common infections (HIV, STDs, TB and COVID-19) is applied to populations in Los Angeles and beyond.
  • Basic and population research aims to understand the role of infection in cancer (e.g. H. pylori in gastric and other cancers; Hepatitis and liver disease; Cytomegalovirus and childhood cancers; Varicella and brain cancer).
  • Division members are active in research collaborations across USC’s Pandemic Research Center.
