Appointments and Promotions

For full-time faculty at the Keck School, there are six tracks for appointments and promotions: Tenure, Research, Clinical, Clinical Scholar, Clinician Educator and Practitioner. Promotion decisions on the Tenure and Clinical Scholar track are made by the provost, and promotion decisions on the remaining tracks are made by the Dean. Faculty on the Clinician Educator and Practitioner tracks are expected to devote at least 85% of their effort to patient care and teaching. Faculty on the Research track are expected to devote 80% of their effort to research. Faculty on the Clinical track have a mixed profile of research time, clinical practice, educational activity, and service.
