Overview

Dr. Orgel is an attending physician in the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA). Dr. Orgel’s clinical specialty is in treating higher risk and rare malignant hematology. He is an international expert in treating Mixed-Phenotype Acute Leukemia (MPAL), a particularly rare form of leukemia. He possesses an academic appointment as a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) and earned a Masters of Science in Clinical and Biomedical Investigations from the Department of Preventive Medicine at USC.

Dr. Orgel’s primary research interest lies in the field of cancer control (reducing acute and long-term treatment-related toxicities). Dr. Orgel leads a translational research program focused on reducing toxicities from common chemotherapies with the goal of improving both treatment delivery and quality of life for children with cancer. Dr. Orgel’s investigator-initiated research currently includes two primary areas of emphasis (1) new agents and novel strategies to reduce chemotherapy-induced hearing loss, and (2) targeting overweight and obesity in pediatric ALL to reduce chemoresistance, toxicity, and relapse.
