Global Medicine students have the opportunity to participate in intensive, short-term (7-10 day) study away courses, held during the spring and summer recesses so you won’t miss any classes. Students who participate in the study away trips have the opportunity observe healthcare delivery in variety of different settings while learning from our international partners about the successes, and challenges, of delivering positive healthcare outcomes around in locations around the world.

Where we travel

MEDS 554 – Clinical Medicine and Healthcare Delivery in Panama

A course in rural Panama in coordination with Floating Doctors, students get to observe first-hand the practice of rural medicine as they gain exposure to the various socio-economic factors present in Bocas del Toro, Panama.

MEDS 556 – Global Health Field Study, New York

A course that provides students with a solid understanding of the United Nations’ major agencies influential in global health, their mandate, their strengths and challenges. Includes field visit to selected UN organizations, all located in NYC.

MEDS 560 – Innovating in Healthcare in Malaysia

Study abroad course in Malaysia that examines the capacity of local communities to address health needs and to address health priorities with innovation, with field visits in major metropolitan and rural areas.

MEDS 557 – Clinical Medicine and Healthcare Dynamics in Denmark

A course that provides a venue for careful examination and assessment of the economic, social, political, and specific health issues currently faced by countries in the European Region.

MEDS 579: Special Topics – Healthcare Challenges and Dynamics in Japan

Students will examine the economic, social, political, and specific health challenges currently faced in Japan. Students will develop a culturally-specific knowledge of health determinants in the context of Japanese life, as well as develop their understanding of health systems and inter-sectoral approaches to addressing these issues.

MEDS 561 – Global Healthcare Development and Practices in Nepal

A course that provides a multi-faceted understanding of the delivery of essential services to underserved populations, particularly women and children, in the challenging Nepalese healthcare landscape.

MEDS 574 – Rural Health in South Africa

Study abroad course exploring the complexities of the delivery of health care in rural South Africa.
