The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences has released its first annual report since being established as the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC in 1977. The Department underwent its second name change in 2021 to better reflect its mission in solving public health and health equity challenges. The report shares stories of impact in research, teaching and service in Los Angeles and around the world.

Ranked #2 in NIH funding for 5 years running, the Department is home to several centers, labs and institutes conducting ground-breaking research in population and public health. Over the past year, the Department secured $1.8M towards DEIB efforts in academia—funding the Trojan Scholars for Advancement in Public Health scholarship and mentorship program among its efforts. Faculty have taken leadership roles in sustainability and advocated at the international level for human rights. Students used their voices and training to make a difference in causes they believe in – from their hometowns to the White House.
