May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Mental illness affects more than 50 million people in the U.S. The statistics are alarming with 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiencing a mental illness each year, and less than half of them receive treatment; 1 in 20 U.S. adults experiencing a serious mental illness each year, and less than two-thirds of them receive treatment; and 1 in 6 U.S. youth experiencing a mental health condition each year, and only half of them receive treatment. Through challenging times, the need for mental health care continues to grow, which is why it’s incredibly important to educate and advocate for resources, support, and access to quality care.
