USC Stroke Team

On January 25, the Keck Medicine of USC Stroke Program and the Nurses of USC participated in the Wayfarer Foundation’s Skid Row Carnival of Love. The Wayfarer Foundation founder and chairman, Justin Baldoni, created the event to help meet the needs of those experiencing homelessness in and around downtown Los Angeles. The event occupies more than 20,000 square feet in the heart of Skid Row, and volunteers serve more than 4,000 guests each year by delivering various resources, including donated clothing, medical services, career opportunities, legal advice, feet washing, hair cutting, DMV ID service, and more. Most importantly, the event is about showing love and fellowship to the Skid Row community.  We are grateful to be a partner in this effort to address the needs of the community. The Stroke Program, along with Nurses of USC, offered blood pressure screenings and stroke education to more than 200 people, teaching the community about stroke warning signs, risk factors and stroke prevention. This shared spirit of volunteerism and commitment to service makes us all proud to be serving together as a USC family.
