USC’s Hossein Jadvar appointed to committee advising NRC

Hossein Jadvar, MD, PhD, MPH, MBA, associate professor of radiology, has been appointed the nuclear medicine physician representative on the Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes (ACMUI). The committee “advises the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) on technical issues that that arise in the regulation of the medical uses of radioactive material,” according to the NRC’s website.

Jadvar also is a member of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, and he is an associate professor of biomedical engineering at the Viterbi School of Engineering.

His research interests include applications of positron emission tomography (PET) outcome research, and in translational molecular imaging research, with particular current interest in prostate cancer, theranostics, and targeted radionuclide therapy.

“Nuclear medicine brings value to patient care and scientific discovery,” Jadvar says. “My career has been defined by upholding these fundamental principles. I therefore welcome the opportunity to provide guidance to and support the mission of the NRC’s ACMUI.”

Jadvar is the past president and fellow of both the American College of Nuclear Medicine (ACNM) and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI). He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed journal articles, four books, 39 book chapters, nine U.S. and European patents, and numerous conference abstracts and full articles.

Members of the ACMUI are appointed to four-year terms, and with approval from the NRC can elect to serve up to two terms, for a maximum of eight years. Jadvar was appointed to his post in October 2019.
