Our Training & Education Programs

Emergency Medicine and Pediatric residents rotate through the Pediatric Emergency Department as part of their core educational requirements. Additionally, there is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) elective rotation intended for Emergency Medicine residents. There is simulation training in PEM for residents each Tuesday.

Medical students on their core pediatric rotation and those on the emergency medicine rotation can expect to spend a few shifts in the PED. There is also a 2-week fourth year pediatric emergency medicine elective consisting of 7 PED and 1 adult ED shift. Please click here for details on application. All medical students have the opportunity to participate in the pediatric case discussions which are part of the medical student curriculum, as well as the variety of PEM modules and grand rounds lectures performed by PEM faculty. PEM faculty are involved in ICS teaching at the medical school, serve as RSP mentors, and sit on the medical school admissions committee.

The PEM faculty lectures nationally and internationally at a number of conferences, including ACEP, AAEM, and Essentials EM. Dr. Behar serves as an editor for the popular PEDs RAP podcast, and the faculty routinely contribute to EM:RAP. We currently do not have a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship.
