Scholarship Opportunities

Additional information regarding financial aid, scholarships and other payback agreements may be obtained from the American Academy of Physician Assistants through the student AAPA webpage. The state of California and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) offers a number of loan repayment programs that allow PA graduates to repay significant amounts of debt through post-graduate employment in settings serving medically underserved patient populations. Additional information regarding post-graduate employment can be obtained through the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, and the National Health Services Corps.

  • The Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The aim of the program is to increase diversity in the health professions by providing awards to eligible schools to be used in awarding scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have financial needs. Disadvantaged backgrounds may include students from traditionally marginalized racial and ethnic minority groups. The USCPA-SDS aims to recruit and retain students from disadvantaged backgrounds, reduce their tuition costs, and return these students to medically underserved, primary care communities, ready to address the mental health and substance use disorder needs of their patients.
  • The National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC SP) awards scholarships to students pursuing eligible primary care health professions training. In return, scholars commit to providing primary care health services in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).
  • The Renee Fabrizi Scholarship is funded by a generous donor who has compassion for students who are single parents. To qualify, the recipient must be a single parent who can demonstrate a financial need based on raising their children and going to school at the same time. The scholarship selection criteria prioritizes single parents, but the donor is willing to consider students in committed relationships with young children who can demonstrate financial need based on an economically disadvantaged background if there are no eligible single parents. The scholarship amount depends on the number of eligible candidates.

  • Scholarships for Veterans

    • Schoen Family Scholarship Program for Veterans is for full-time students who have received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces and served a minimum of three years of continuous, full-time, active duty between 2003 and the present.
    • USC Engelstad Foundation Scholarship for Veterans The Engelstad Foundation Scholarship for Veterans was recently established at USC because of a generous gift from the Engelstad Family Foundation. This is the first central gift that gives scholarships to student veterans from all schools within the University.
    • Yellow Ribbon G.I. Education Enhancement Program for veterans entitled to the 100% Post 9/11 benefit rate (based on service requirements) or their designated transferees may receive this funding. Active duty service members and their spouses are not eligible for this program (child transferees of active duty service members may be eligible if the service member is qualified at the 100% rate). Due to these requirements, we request that student veterans or their spouses submit the VA Certificate of Eligibility with a service end date (the certificate is mailed by the VA directly to students). Children of eligible veterans or service members may submit the certificate with or without a service end date.
    • ARMY: Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) The U.S. Army can help pay for your advanced medical degree with one of the most comprehensive scholarships available in the healthcare field — The F. Edward Hébert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program.
    • NAVY: Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) If you’re interested in launching a medical career, the Navy offers a variety of programs that can help finance your graduate-level professional schooling all the way through residency. After graduation, you’ll become an Officer and professional serving in the world of Navy health care as a physician, dentist, nurse, health care administrator, health care scientist or clinical care provider.
    • US AIR FORCE: Health Professions Scholarship Program Healthcare professionals can pursue further studies with financial assistance through the Health Professions Scholarship program. These scholarships cover all tuition and required fees, including textbooks, small equipment and supplies as well as a monthly allowance for living expenses. While on scholarship, recipients spend 45 days on active duty in the Air Force. Upon graduation, recipients serve one year of active duty for each year of scholarship, with a minimum of three years.
