Undergraduate Minor

The Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Minor offers students interested in psychiatry, behavioral health, and/or healthcare an opportunity to explore these topics in depth with Keck School of Medicine faculty who have expertise and training in assessment, clinical interventions, research, and teaching. This sixteen-unit minor is most suitable for undergraduate students interested in behavioral health and medicine. However, the universal topics covered in our courses are applicable and useful for students within any degree program.

Throughout our program, students will gain the ability to:

  1. Understand relationships between biology, physiology, brain functioning, and behavior.
  2. Utilize and apply theoretical models to common social phenomena.
  3. Analyze social, historical, cultural, and contextual factors that impact human experiences, behaviors, and identity.
  4. Described complex issues and potential solutions in the field of behavioral health.
  5. Develop increased awareness of ways this knowledge and information can impact health outcomes for students and professionals.
