The Space Planning Department provides strategic leadership in the planning, management, and optimization of the Keck School of Medicine’s physical resources. Working in partnership with school leadership, faculty, researchers, clinicians, and administrative departments, we support the missions of education, research, patient care, and community engagement through thoughtful space planning, capital project coordination, and facilities management. Our team oversees space allocation, renovation and relocation planning, capital project development, facility programming, and space utilization analysis to ensure that campus resources are used efficiently and aligned with the Keck School of Medicine’s long-term strategic goals. We also maintain comprehensive space and facilities data to support informed decision-making, operational excellence, and future campus growth.

Since 2015, the Space Planning Department has leveraged the Archibus Facilities Management (FM) Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) system to maintain a comprehensive inventory of campus space and AutoCAD floor plans. As the official repository for space data, Archibus provides the foundation for strategic space planning, facility programming, utilization analysis, and capital planning. The system enables the department to evaluate current and future space needs, support institutional growth, optimize the use of existing facilities, and generate comprehensive reports that guide budgeting, compliance, and long-term planning initiatives.
