About our Division

The Division of Emergency Ultrasound is actively conducting several research projects with the oversight of the Department of Emergency Medicine’s research division. The mission of the research division of the Department of Emergency Medicine is to create a vibrant, collaborative and sustainable environment for faculty, residents and students, in which solutions to pressing health questions can be thoughtfully developed, honestly critiqued and rigorously tested. By collaborating together, the division of emergency ultrasound has seen a marked increase in scholarly production and academic publication in the field of emergency ultrasonography.

Emergency Ultrasound Student Clerkship

This medical student clerkship gives one or two students a month with the opportunity to rotate on the emergency ultrasound senior medical student elective. Students will work directly with the ultrasound faculty on multiple proctored shifts to learn the many applications of bedside ultrasound. Applications are taken through the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Emergency Ultrasound Emergency Medicine Resident Rotation

All PGY-1 and PGY-2 Year EM residents complete 2-week rotations with the Division of Emergency Ultrasound. During these rotations, residents work directly with the emergency ultrasound faculty on proctored ultrasound shifts, providing all EM residents with intensive instruction and immediate feedback in basic and advanced applications of emergency ultrasound.

Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Los Angeles General Medical Center offers a one-year specialized fellowship program in Emergency Ultrasound. The fellowship provides fellows with advanced instruction in all aspects of EM ultrasonography, including image acquisition and interpretation, teaching skills (bedside and lecture format), original research, and ultrasound program administration. The fellowship at Los Angeles General Medical Center considers applicants who have successfully completed residency in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine.
