Why Minor In Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences?

This 16-unit minor includes courses that will equip students with a deeper understanding of psychiatry and behavioral health to create a strong foundation for any student interested in pursuing degrees within the healthcare field. Due to the universality of course material, this minor could also be of interest and beneficial to students pursuing other degrees. 

Throughout our program, students will gain the ability to:

  1. Understand relationships between biology, physiology, brain functioning, and behavior.
  2. Utilize and apply theoretical models to common social phenomena.
  3. Analyze social, historical, cultural, and contextual factors that impact human experiences, behaviors, and identity.
  4. Described complex issues and potential solutions in the field of behavioral health.
  5. Develop increased awareness of ways this knowledge and information can impact health outcomes for students and professionals.

  • PBHS 304 Mental Health and Climate Change (4 units)
  • PBHS 305 The Science of Altruism – (4 units)
  • PBHS 306 Team-Based Care: Roles of Mental Health Professionals on Interdisciplinary Teams
  • PBHS 307 Dynamics of Power and Gender-Based Violence
  • PBHS 310w Identity Development of the Contemporary Trojan (4 units)
