Faculty Career Development

The Keck School of Medicine of USC is dedicated to nurturing the career growth of junior faculty scholars. Our programs are tailored to support individuals who have completed medical or doctoral degrees and have different levels of post-doctoral research training.  We prepare scholars for full-time careers in research and academia.

For faculty seeking a mentored career development experience:

Individual Career Development (NIH K-series) Awards:  These awards are issued to individuals for up to five years of mentored career development. See a summary of opportunities at:  https://grants.nih.gov/funding/funding-categories/research-training-and-career-development/individual-career.

K awardees work under the guidance of a qualified mentor to conduct research and participate in didactic and practical training. The KSOM office of research provides consultation regarding identification of a mentor, best practices in grant writing, and access to a library of materials provided by current and previous USC K awardees.

Institutional Mentored Career Development

These awards are issued to institutions, which select trainees for mentored career development similar to, but generally shorter than individual awards. The Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute recruits four Scholars per year to a three-year KL2 program.
