The Department of Cancer Biology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is committed to training the next generation of scientists and researchers in cancer biology, genomics, and molecular medicine. Through a range of PhD and Master’s programs, students gain in-depth expertise in the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cancer, as well as translational approaches for advancing diagnostics and therapeutics.

Our department participates in two PhD programs as part of the Programs in Biomedical and Biological Sciences (PIBBS):

PhD in Cancer Biology and Genomics – Focuses on understanding the genetic, epigenetic, and molecular mechanisms that drive cancer development and progression.
PhD in Molecular Medicine – Trains students in the translational application of molecular and cellular biology to develop innovative therapies for cancer and other diseases.

Additionally, the department offers three Master’s programs, providing specialized training in emerging fields at the intersection of cancer research, biotechnology, and informatics:

MS in Translational Biotechnology – Equips students with skills in drug development, regulatory science, and commercialization of biomedical innovations.
MS in Translational Biomedical Informatics – Prepares students to analyze complex biological data and apply informatics tools to precision medicine and cancer research.
MS in Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine – Provides a strong foundation in biochemistry, molecular biology, and disease mechanisms, with applications in cancer and therapeutic development.
