The Department of Medical Education houses a team of educational scholars with diverse expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods. These scholars are actively involved in conducting investigations that inform decision-making in medical education. They work across disciplines to address various issues throughout the medical education continuum.

Our faculty collaborate with other faculty at the Keck School to offer guidance and support in areas such as research design, manuscript development, statistical analysis, and educational grant applications. The goal is to advance the Keck School’s medical education research agenda by providing insights and expertise in these areas.

Current areas of investigation include:

    • Establishment and evaluation of a system of assessment.
    • Curriculum development and instructional design.
    • Implementation of clinical skills teaching and assessment methodologies.
    • Provision of academic support and career planning.
    • Utilization of active learning modalities and team-based learning.
    • Integration of narrative medicine.
    • Exploration of social justice and health systems science.
    • Emphasis on patient-centered digital health.
