Narsing Rao, MD, the Grace and Emery Beardsley Chair in Ophthalmology and soon to be the interim dean of the Keck School of Medicine, was recently featured as part of the Living Legend Series in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology (IJO).

IJO’s Living Legend Series acknowledges an internationally recognized physician-scientist for their lifetime contribution to ophthalmology. In addition to a guest editorial, Rao was asked to write a personal history about his years working in ophthalmology, meant to inspire young physicians pursuing a career in ophthalmology:

After completing medical school at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India in 1967, I moved to the United States in 1968 to pursue my postgraduate medical education. The moment marked the beginning of a lifelong journey that would lead me to becoming the academic physician, researcher, leader, and mentor I am today.

Rao has been a member of the Keck School of Medicine faculty since 1983. He became chair of the ophthalmology department on March 26, 2018. He specializes in the treatment of inflammatory ocular diseases that affect the uveal tract, vitreous, retina and sclera.
