With more than 30 years of clinical experience as a board-certified adult and pediatric perfusionist, Julie has vast experience in all aspects of perfusion. Julie has more than 20 years of leadership experience, focusing on team development, skill enhancement, and both personal and professional growth. Julie has actively participated in the organization and completion of numerous pediatric medical missions around the world. Julie is a Fellow member of the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion, a Fellow of Pediatric Perfusion, and a member of the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology

Julie Fenske, MS CCP FPP
Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery (Clinician Educator)

Julie Fenske has been a board-certified adult and pediatric cardiovascular perfusionist since 2017 and has extensive experience in specialized perfusion sciences, leadership development, and medical education. She belongs to the professional organizations AmSECT and The AACP and has presented at national conferences for each. She received designation as a Fellow of Pediatric Perfusion by AmSECT in 2024 and has published within the journals of Journal of Extracorporeal Technology and The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. Julie Fenske encourages academic and personal development by incorporating a collaborative, honest, and positive learning environment, both within the operating room and the classroom alike.

Dr. Adam Fernandez, D.H.Sc, MPS, CCP

Perfusion simulation specialist

Dr. Adam Fernandez is a perfusion educator and practicing adult and pediatric perfusionist with over 20 years of experience. He worked previously at three perfusion schools in the US, and has also worked internationally in Canada, Asia, the Middle East and the EU. A native of the UK, he earned his first degree at Oxford, trained as a perfusionist at the Medical University of South Carolina, earned a Master of Perfusion Science degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Doctoral degree from AT Still University in Mesa, AZ. He is currently enrolled and reading for the Master of Studies degree in Practical Ethics, at Pembroke College, University of Oxford and will complete that in September 2025. He holds board certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion and was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in London, England and also elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in London, England.

Clinically, his practice includes perfusion and life support for neonatal & pediatric congenital cardiac surgery, and adult cardiac surgery.

His academic responsibilities cover simulation education and didactic teaching of physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology and applied perfusion techniques. He is also involved with student research as mentor and research supervisor.

His area of academic interest includes the ethics of algorithmic decision making and applications of AI in the classroom, acute care setting and OR.
