HOW TO GET INVOLVED

  • The SCAA Executive Board is a group of dedicated individuals committed to advancing medical education at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. This group brainstorms, promotes, and facilitates activities that:

    • Provide opportunities for alumni to connect with faculty, students, and each other to further their personal, professional, and intellectual growth.
    • Advance the Keck School’s educational mission through networking, mentoring, and philanthropic support.
    • Connect alumni and students through a range of professional and social engagement opportunities organized by the SCAA and the USC Office of Alumni Relations.

The SCAA Executive Board meets quarterly, twice in-person and twice virtually, and each gathering features a guest speaker from the medical school.

To learn more, please contact Chelsea Knott, director of alumni relations at: chelsea.knott@med.usc.edu.

  • How can you say no to one day of service?

Alumni Shadowing is a unique opportunity for you to connect with our current medical students, while providing them with insight into a career in medicine and to learn first-hand about your work-life balance as a physician. You will be paired with a current medical student and are encouraged to answer questions about your practice environment, practice model, clinic management, and your provider team.

If you would like to participate or have questions, please contact Chelsea Knott, director of alumni relations at: chelsea.knott@med.usc.edu.

  • The Keck School’s Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM) program, which was cited by the Association of American Medical Colleges as a core curriculum strength, is a two-year continuum course for our first- and second-year medical students, in which they learn basic clinical skills.  The students meet in small groups of six with a single instructor for a half-day session every Tuesday, for the entire academic year.

In addition to the weekly morning sessions, students also attend afternoon workshops every Thursday and focus on a particular interviewing or physical exam skill. Volunteer faculty members receive a small stipend, complimentary parking, textbook materials, and a voluntary faculty appointment that includes access to Keck’s online library resources.

To learn more about becoming a volunteer faculty member for the ICM program, please email Greg Harlan, ICM program director, at gharlan@usc.edu.

  • Share your expertise with current students by speaking to a class or advising a student interest group on campus. Hearing directly from alumni about their experiences in the “real world” is an invaluable opportunity for our students, helping to shape their ambitions for life after graduation. By talking to students in person or through streaming video, you can help prepare them for success. Sound like fun? Let us know you’re interested by contacting Chelsea Knott, director of alumni relations at: chelsea.knott@med.usc.edu.

  • Three more ways you can help prepare today’s students for a future of success.

    • Mock Residency Interviews – Help fourth-year students prepare for residency interviews.
    • Reunion Committee Member – Help boost turnout for your class reunion.
    • Class Liaison – Help with communications to your class.

Let us know your interest by contacting Chelsea Knott, director of alumni relations at: chelsea.knott@med.usc.edu.
