To Preserve, Protect and Restore
Patients’ Vision

The USC Roski Eye Institute ranks among the top five nationally in NIH ophthalmology research funding (2025 Blue Ridge) and contributes to the Keck School of Medicine’s #1 ranking in NIH funding per investigator. Our research covers five focus areas: bioengineering and nanotechnology, epidemiology, imaging, inflammation and regeneration, and neuroregeneration. This work translates directly into advances in macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, dry eye, and other conditions.

Ophthalmology faculty publish more than 200 peer-reviewed papers each year, see more than 250 patients daily, and handle some of the most complex surgical cases in the western United States. Our residency is among the largest in the country, with training across Keck Hospital of USC, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Los Angeles General Medical Center, and the VA Downtown Los Angeles. Rotations and fellowships are offered in cornea, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, pediatric ophthalmology, and vitreoretinal surgery.

Education & Training

Our four-year residency accepts six residents per year and trains at four institutions. Residents graduate with procedural experience consistently above the 80th percentile nationally. In addition, five accredited clinical fellowships admit applicants each year.

Support Us

Philanthropy advances every dimension of our work. Gifts to research fund our five focus areas and support the Baxter Scholar Program, KSOM Dean’s Pilot Awards, and Zumberge grants that seed new investigations. Support for training sustains our residency, one of the largest in the country, and our five subspecialty fellowships.
