The University of Southern California (USC) Roski Eye Institute Glaucoma Service offers a one-year Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) FCC compliant fellowship in glaucoma management and surgery. Clinical experience consists of USC glaucoma faculty clinics as well as clinics at the Los Angeles General Medical CenterFellows have the opportunity to manage complex glaucoma patients with direct supervision from the faculty and develop the clinical and surgical experience to treat a wide variety of glaucoma-related pathologies.

The surgical experience is broad and diverse, with exposure to conventional glaucoma surgeries, such as trabeculectomies and glaucoma drainage devices (Baerveldt/Ahmed), and a wide range of minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), such as goniotomy and/or canaloplasty (KDB, Trabex, OMNI), trabecular bypass stents (iStent, Hydrus), cyclophotocoagulation (MicroPulse, continuous wave) and XEN.

The LA General Medical Center serves a diverse and safety-net patient population. The LA General Glaucoma division treats a range of pathologies ranging from early to advanced, refractory glaucoma in collaboration with other subspecialities including cornea, retina, and uveitis. Additionally, glaucoma fellows have their own consultation clinic at LA General where complex cataracts or MIGS candidate patients can be referred.

The USC Roski Eye Institute has state of the art facilities that add to the well-rounded experience offered during this important year of training. There are also ample research opportunities, with ongoing studies on artificial intelligence (AI), telemedicine, ocular imaging, epidemiology, big data, data informatics, and surgical outcomes. Finally, fellows have the opportunity to attend and present at ophthalmology meetings in the United States and abroad.
