Cornea, External Disease & Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the USC Roski Eye Institute provides an in-depth education on the pathophysiology of corneal diseases and their management. Training is provided at three hospitals: USC Roski Eye Institute at Keck Medical Center of USCChildren’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA), and Los Angeles General Medical Center.

The fellowship program includes a rigorous one-year study of all aspects of cornea, external disease and refractive surgery. Diagnosis and medical/surgical management of diseases of the lids, conjunctiva, cornea, sclera, and anterior segment, as well as recognition and treatment of posterior segment disease that may affect the anterior segment, are taught in USC Roski Eye Institute clinics and operating rooms.

Fellows are actively involved in surgery of the conjunctiva, cornea, sclera, and anterior segment with special emphasis on corneal transplantation, including penetrating and lamellar keratoplasties. Approximately 25 percent of the fellows’ time is devoted to clinical activities at the Cornea, External Disease & Refractive Clinic at the Los Angeles General Medical Center. Under staff supervision, fellows are responsible for patient care in the weekly clinic. They serve as primary consultants and surgeons on cornea transplants referred by the Ophthalmology Resident Service.

The Fellowship Program is AUPO FCC compliant and is associated with the USC ACGME-accredited Residency Program in Ophthalmology. There is significant interaction between fellows and residents both in the clinics and the operating rooms.

The program offers one fellowship position. The position is filled through SF Match.
