Wireless, Online Materials, and IT Support at KSOM (Fall 2024)

The following video will show you how to connect to KSOM’s three wireless networks, how to access online MD course and clerkship materials from any location on and off the medical school campus, and how to access support from USC’s technology staff.

Latest Laptop, Printer, and Software Requirements

All entering medical students at the Keck School of Medicine of USC are required to own a laptop computer that you will use both in class and during proctored examinations. Students are also required to have, at home, a duplex (two-sided) printer and high-speed Internet connectivity to share documents with faculty, staff, and other students and to access online instructional content. This document (PDF) shows KSOM’s latest, minimum specifications.

Free Campus-Wide Software

For a list of software available at no charge to USC faculty, staff, and students, visit https://software.usc.edu/free-to-campus/. Due to security changes, some apps downloaded on that website require a USC secure network connection. This means that you must connect to USC Secure Wireless from campus or connect to USC’s VPN.

  • As a USC student, you may download up to five copies of the latest version of Microsoft Office 365 for use on your personal computing equipment, including desktop or laptop computers, and up to five copies on your iPhone, iPad, and Android and Windows mobile devices. See http://itservices.usc.edu/officestudents/
  • SentinelOne Endpoint Detection and Response software (a.k.a. “antivirus” and “antispyware”) is available for download at no cost at https://usc.cyberforcesecurity.com/

Accessing IT Support

if you need access to support from USC’s technology staff, you can contact USC ITS’ customer support center 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at (213) 740-5555 or consult@usc.edu. ITS also has a really helpful website at https://itservices.usc.edu/.
